Overview of Aditya ResortAditya, completed in early 2006, is undoubtedly one of the finest boutique properties in Sri Lanka. It sits on a secluded stretch of beach in Rathgama, midway between the hedonistic beach resort of Hikkaduwa and the historic old town of Galle. The drive from Colombo is about three hours. Aditya will become Sri Lanka’s must-have destination in 2007, so be prepared to book several months in advance to secure it. Sri Lanka’s ability to produce luxurious boutique hotels is now established, but Aditya arguably raises the bar still further. The Adityas is the common name for the 12 sun gods, said to dwell in the highest heavens, sustainers of the celestial light. It is an appropriate name for a quite wonderful property designed both to de-stress and exhilarate.Accommodation in Aditya Resort Aditya’s suites are a delight, so much so that some guests have been known never to leave them. There are 12 spacious and elegant suites – five garden suites, six sea-view suites (more expensive, but highly recommended), and the Grand Surya Suite. - Sagara Suites 6 a little more expensive but worth the difference - have a large sitting area comfortably furnished with wicker armchairs, low table and lamps and a desk. This leads through french doors onto a verandah overlooking the beach and Indian Ocean.- Shanthi Suites 5 are decorated in cool neutral colours with marble tiled floors. Large picture windows with sun screen blinds make the most of the view across lush tropical gardens. Cushioned loungers invite you to laze and enjoy. Prepare to be amazed by the nightly transformation into a magical grotto as the myriad ceiling lights pick up a thousand dancing images in the overhead painting effects. - Surya Suite has a very spacious sitting area with generous, upholstered armchairs, table, desk etc. Steps lead up to a mezzanine level of gleaming timber featuring an elaborate king size bed decorated with rich, jewel coloured Indian throws and cushions. The luxurious bathroom is beautifully fitted with a long vanity unit supporting elegant, modern twin sinks. The balcony and sun patio allows private bathing if you dont wish to mingle by the pool.Restaurants in Aditya ResortGuests may dine wherever and whenever they choose. Menus are prepared by Chef but guests are free to make any reasonable request and the staff will do their utmost to please. The Amal Restaurant overlooks the beach, so choose a window seat for dinner and enjoy a dramatic sunset to compliment your meal. A reasonable selection of wines and cocktails is available from the bar.We dined on a wonderful sushi platter and grilled seafood. Dessert was a sharp lemon and ginger panacotta with strawberry and passion fruit coulis and almond flakes. Not surprisingly we didnt have room for lunch but light snacks of prawn and mango salad with sweet chillie sauce and cocounut banana shrimp cerainly tempted the palette. The menu was fairly priced and late risers may enjoy Adityas Sunrise Brunch on occasion and just head straight for the pool to catch the late sun. There is a good selection of wines at value prices. If you fancy a night out, Hikkaduwa has many coastal eateries, for casual dining, and reggae bars. There are many wonderful, sophisticated fine dining restaurants in Galles Fort area.
